    • Ajax Community Plant

      April 22

      The community that plants together, grows together! Our Community Tree Plant brings together families, community members and volunteers to take part in a half-day tree planting activity, promoting local engagement and environmental awareness.

      This family-friendly event offers participants the chance to directly support their community in a local reforestation project and learn about the benefits of trees, shade and green urban spaces.

      Along with the Town of Ajax and Honda Canada, we will be planting 1,600 native trees and plants. Town of Ajax will provide the trees, shovels, gloves & snacks! Help increase trees in Ajax- high school students can even receive volunteer hours!

      Course delivery is a collaborative effort of Forests Ontario and the Canadian Institute of Forestry, covering implementation of the partial cut forest management systems used in Ontario. Those who pass the course can become Certified Tree Markers, and is mandatory for all tree markers working on Crown land in Ontario. The course is also valuable for those who wish to become independent tree markers, or increase their awareness of forest ecology. The training consists of four days of classroom lectures (combined with field visits and exercises), followed by one optional day of written and field examinations for those wishing to pursue certification. Topics include: stand analysis, tree evaluation and classification, habitat values and biodiversity consideration, implementing forest management prescriptions and marking crew organization.

      Course delivery is a collaborative effort of Forests Ontario and the Canadian Institute of Forestry under agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, and provides training to allow a successful graduate to work as a tree marking crew boss or tree marking auditor. The training consists of two days of classroom lectures in combination with field visits and exercises, followed by a half day of written and field examinations. Topics include: contract management, quality assurance, wildlife values considered when auditing, and audit field procedures.

Tree Marking Program

Course delivery is a collaborative effort of Forests Ontario and the Canadian Institute of Forestry, covering implementation of the partial cut forest management systems used in Ontario. Those who pass the course can become Certified Tree Markers, and is mandatory for all tree markers working on Crown land in Ontario. The course is also valuable for those who wish to become independent tree markers, or increase their awareness of forest ecology. The training consists of four days of classroom lectures (combined with field visits and exercises), followed by one optional day of written and field examinations for those wishing to pursue certification. Topics include: stand analysis, tree evaluation and classification, habitat values and biodiversity consideration, implementing forest management prescriptions and marking crew organization.
