Forests Ontario

Heritage Tree Evaluator

Heritage Tree Evaluators are an essential part of the program – helping Forests Ontario to evaluate nominated trees from across the province. Evaluators are typically tree experts and are the ideal opportunity for retired arborists and foresters to maintain their skills and networks.

Criteria is used to evaluate include historical and cultural significance, species rarity, prominence, age, condition problems, expected longevity and form. Evaluators are provided an Evaluation Form to guide them in the rating process of the tree which is then provided to Forests Ontario for the committee to review.

Evaluators work on a volunteer basis, however an annual Forests Ontario individual membership is provided to all evaluators, as well as the opportunity to meet landowners in your community. By providing your time and expertise, you can help to increase the number of trees that are evaluated and designated as a Heritage Tree.
