Tree Marking Program
The Ontario Tree Marker Training teaches the wise use of silvicultural systems used to sustain and enhance forest ecosystems that existing and future forest industry depends on. The program is delivered by Forests Ontario and the Canadian Institute of Forestry and covers the forest management systems used in Ontario.
Tree Marker training consists of multi-day courses with field visits and exercises in combination with classroom lectures. An optional 1 day of written and field examinations is also available for those wishing to receive a certificate of training. Topics include: stand analysis, tree classification, hardwood tree evaluation and marking, habitat values and biodiversity consideration, and marking crew organization. Courses are mandatory for all tree markers working on Crown land in Ontario. The course is also valuable for those wishing to become an independent tree marker, those wanting to increase their awareness of forest ecology, and those wanting to learn more about forest management practices in Ontario.
