National Forest Week

September 18th–24th, 2016

National Forest Week (NFW) is an opportunity to learn more about Canada’s forest heritage and to raise awareness about this valuable and renewable resource. Originally established in 1920 as Forest Fire Prevention Week, it was renamed in 1967 to NFW and has evolved to include highlighting the many values we receive from our forest including ecological, economical and social. Celebrate with us this week!

Ideas for National Forest Week:

  • try out our treebee.ca website and learn about the trees in your community
  • wear plaid and share a photo tagged with #ItTakesAForest to show your support for NFW – download our poster here
  • download our Focus on Forests lesson plans and activity sheets to bring forests into your classrooms
  • sign up for Forestry in the Classroom and bring a local volunteer to talk about trees and forests
  • take part in any of our events taking place
  • visit the Canadian Institute of Forestry‘s website to learn about events in your community
  • check out a local conservation area or provincial park
