Thompson Emergency Freight Systems Celebrates 30 Years of Growth with Launch of “Book a Load, Plant a Tree” Program

December 16th, 2015 -Ontario-based Thompson Emergency Freight Systems has provided cross-border transportation services for 30 years. To celebrate this landmark anniversary, Thompson chose to give back to the communities it serves with the “Book a Load…Plant a Tree” program. The program pledges to support the planting of a tree for every load booked for delivery through Thompson. Since launching this past summer, Thompson has partnered with Forests Ontario to plant more than 1,000 trees thus far. “Coming into Thompson’s 30th year of providing award winning cross-border expediting services, we were looking for a way to give back to the communities we have and continue to serve. Our president suggested planting trees, noting that trucking is not known for being environmentally friendly and that Thompson had recently become a SmartWay Transport partner,” says Mark Bortolotti, Marketing & Sales Director at Thompson. After researching tree planting organizations, Thompson connected with Forests Ontario and officially launched the “Book a Load…Plant a Tree” program.

“We’ve received almost universally positive feedback from our customers since we’ve launched this initiative and we’re excited to continue,” Bortolotti adds. “Thompson regularly works with over 10,000 different customers who have made it possible for us to grow over the past 30 years. Now, beyond providing our customers with great service, we’re placing our efforts behind a cause that will make those customers proud they’ve chosen to work with Thompson Emergency.”

“Forests Ontario is honoured that Thompson Emergency has chosen to partner with us in our efforts to increase tree planting and forest cover in Ontario,” says Forests Ontario CEO Rob Keen. “Thompson’s actions are an excellent example of how businesses can take action to reduce their impact on our natural environment and do their part to address the challenges of climate change.”

Forests Ontario delivers planting programs throughout Ontario and across Canada through the organization’s Forest Recovery Canada program. The generous support of partners like Thompson Emergency Freight Systems enables Forests Ontario to plant nearly 3 million trees each year.

Our forests are essential to healthy communities, a strong economy, and the resilience of our ecosystem against the effects of climate change. Forests provide invaluable benefits such as clean air and water, wildlife habitat, renewable natural resources, and recreational spaces. Forests Ontario extends our thanks to the entire team at Thompson Emergency Freight Systems and looks forward to growing a healthier future together.
