Trees Ontario Joins Local MPPs Donna Cansfield and Laurel Broten at Government and Community Services Fair
February 11, 2008 – On Saturday, February 9, 2008, Trees Ontario joined local MPPs, the Honourable Donna Cansfield and Ms. Laurel Broten at the 3rd annual Government and Community Services Fair held at Cloverdale Mall in Etobicoke.
Over the course of the day, hundreds of community members visited the various ministry and agency booths on display to learn more about government and community service programs available.
Trees Ontario was on hand to meet local residents, generate awareness about the importance of tree planting and talk about the tree planting subsidy programs available to landowners. Fair attendees were also provided with free native white pine seedlings and planting instructions to take home with them.
“It’s very important for us to be at these events to meet our community neighbours and explain why we need to be planting more trees,” said Michael Scott, President and CEO, Trees Ontario. “At one time we were planting upwards of 30 million trees a year in the province. Now, we are planting 2 -3 million in southern Ontario and this number needs to grow in order to help mitigate the effects of urbanization, greenhouse gases and other environmental effects.”
“In order to build our tree planting capacity and infrastructure we need the strong support of Ontarians,” said Mr. Scott.
Trees Ontario will be attending the Green Living Show on April 25 – 27 at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place in Toronto. Mark your calendars to come and visit the Trees Ontario booth located in the Urban Forest.
