Trees Ontario Joins the Honourable Donna Cansfield and local MPPs at Government and Community Services Fair
February 28, 2009 – On Saturday, February 28, 2009, Trees Ontario joined the Honourable Donna Cansfield, Minister of Natural Resources, and local MPPs at the 4th annual Government and Community Services Fair held at Cloverdale Mall in Etobicoke.
Over the course of the day, hundreds of community members visited the various ministry and agency booths on display to learn more about government and community service programs available.
Trees Ontario was on hand to meet local residents, generate awareness about the importance of tree planting and talk about the tree planting subsidy programs available to landowners, most notably the 50 Million Tree Program which Trees Ontario administers for the MNR. Fair attendees were also provided with free native white spruce seed packets and planting instructions to take home with them.
In August 2007, the Ontario Government introduced a program to fund the planting of 50 million trees across the province by 2025, as part of their commitment to help fight climate change and green the province. This is the most ambitious program of its kind in North America and is Ontario’s commitment to the United Nations Billion Tree Campaign.
