Working with its partners, Trees Ontario is the largest not-for-profit tree planting partnership in North America. Trees Ontario planted nearly 3 million trees in 2011. Our goal is to support the planting of 10 million trees per year by 2015. To help put Ontario on the path to achieving this goal, Trees Ontario is seeking landowners to participate in its programs.
Real trees are better than artificial trees, according to the Ontario Forestry Association. Christmas trees are grown on farms specifically for the holiday, and while growing, they are a carbon sink, and provide wildlife habitat and soil and water retention. Real Christmas trees are also grown locally and are 100 per cent biodegradable, unlike artificial trees, which are often transported thousands of kilometers and are made from a non-biodegradable petroleum based product that requires energy during the manufacturing process.
