Seed Forecasting Workshops

Trees Ontario is hosting free tree seed forecasting workshops this June
Learn to collect tree seeds today to plant the forests of tomorrow

TORONTO, ON, May 23, 2014 – This June, Trees Ontario will host four free tree seed forecasting workshops across the province. Knowledgeable and dedicated forecasters are invaluable in increasing tree seed inventories and providing the base for more expansive and successful planting efforts across Ontario.

The workshops teach participants how to identify trees for potential seed collection.

Attendees receive insight into key areas of seed forecasting and collection, including:

· Seed production: Discerning various species’ flowering patterns and how surrounding conditions might impact flower development.

· Seed development: Observing the maturity and development of newly fertilized seeds and potential threats.

· Crop progression: Understanding and predicting the amount or size of seed crop that a particular tree(s) will yield.

Collecting seeds, tracking their development, and compiling information about availability, location, type and quantity are vital components in strengthening Ontario’s tree planting infrastructure.

Forecasting and collecting tree seeds today ensures the planting of tomorrow’s forests. Join us for our tree seed forecasting workshops and help lay the foundation for a greener and healthier future.

A light lunch and refreshments will be provided. Registration is highly recommended as space is limited.
