Fall 2015 Landowner Workshops Announced

MEDIA ADVISORY

Forests Ontario is pleased to announce a series of five free landowner workshops happening across Ontario this fall. Workshops will provide an overview of key topics for landowners interested in growing or managing forests on their property.

Workshops will be led by representatives from Forests Ontario’s planting partners across the province and will also include presentations from experts in a variety of forest management topics. Topics to be covered at each workshop will include:

  • The 50 Million Tree Program: The 50 Million Tree Program provides landowners with subsidies and practical assistance when planting on more than 2.5 acres of land. Landowners can have up to 90% of planting costs covered through this program.
  • Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP): Properties with over 10 acres of forest are eligible for MFTIP. If your property is approved under this program, you can pay as little as 25% of the municipal tax rate for residential properties. Workshops will offer insight into the MFTIP process and developing a plan for approval by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
  • Windbreaks/Shoreline Planting: Trees can significantly improve the function of your property by providing windbreaks during the winter and shade during the summer. Shoreline planting also prevents erosion and maintains water quality.
  • Invasive Species: Workshops will highlight different strategies for identifying and managing invasive species as well as methods to prevent their spread.

A full list of workshops along with date, time, and location, are included below. To register, visit our Landowner Workshops page. If you have any questions, contact Chrystal Henning at 1-877-646-1193 ext. 234 or chenning@forestsontario.ca.
