Faces of Forests Ontario: Allison Hands
Posted: July 24, 2018
Name: Allison Hands
Position: Education Manager
Favourite Tree: Tamarack
Forests Ontario has been lucky to have Allison Hands on board for the past eight years! Before stepping into her current role, Allison started as a Program Administrator and then worked as the Membership Services Coordinator. Her typical work day involves connecting with partners and planning for the growth and future direction of Forests Ontario’s educational programming. She is heavily involved with the Ontario Envirothon and Focus on Forests and is also responsible for attending educational events and conducting general outreach. When asked what her favourite part of her job is, Allison is quick to tell you how rewarding she finds interacting with students. It’s this passion and dedication that motivates Allison to continue improving and increasing the reach of Forests Ontario’s educational programs.
Originally from Burlington, Allison spent most of her summers growing up in the northern Ontario community of Chapleau. There, she developed an appreciation for the environment which eventually led her to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Resource Management at the Trent University. Since then, Allison has cultivated a unique background combining youth work with the environment. Although she always enjoyed being out in the woods, it wasn’t until she began working at Forests Ontario that Allison developed a strong interest in forest management.
When Allison isn’t busy dispelling forestry myths or inspiring a new generation of environmentalists, she enjoys jarring tomatoes for her friends, rocking her bow and arrow at the local archery range, playing soccer, and practicing her knitting.
