Posted: August 7, 2018
Name: Ashley Funk
Position: Awareness Coordinator
Favourite Tree: White pine
Awareness Coordinator Ashley has been an invaluable member of the Forests Ontario team since she started in September 2017. Ashley is responsible for keeping track of and organizing events, finding employees to attend specific events, and performing general office administration. Her typical work day involves performing various administrative tasks, filtering calls and emails, researching relevant events, and acting as the organization’s primary front line employee. She is involved in a little bit of everything that goes on at Forests Ontario! The variety of Ashley’s different tasks and requirement for her to know about all of Forests Ontario’s programs keeps her busy and interested in her work.
Following high school, Ashley moved from her hometown in Manitoba to British Columbia, where she obtained a degree in Biblical Studies from Columbia Bible College. At the College, she worked as both an Admissions Advisor and Recruiter. Her previous work experience has fostered a continued desire to work in the not-for-profit sector, which is part of the reason she was drawn to Forests Ontario. Ashley also finds that Forests Ontario’s work towards combatting climate change aligns with her own values and general passion for environmental issues.
In the future, Ashley would like to continue working in the not-for-profit sector where she can help improve the lives of people and the health of the environment. She is also entertaining the idea of going back to school. Until then, you can find her home brewing beer and wine with her husband and adorable dog CJ.
