Faces of Forests Ontario: MJ Kettleborough
Posted: August 23, 2018
Name: MJ Kettleborough
Position: Communications Assistant
Favourite Tree: Oak
Forests Ontario has kept MJ busy since she started nearly a year and a half ago in 2017 as a Communications Assistant. Her tasks vary, but a typical work day consists of a lot of writing and editing and collecting media clippings. MJ is responsible for the Green Leader program (which acknowledges individuals who have planted trees under the government of Ontario’s 50 Million Tree Program), and she also plays a large role in the completion of Forests Ontario’s quarterly Our Forest magazine and Treeline newsletter.
MJ holds an advanced Public Relations diploma from Humber College, as well as a Media Studies degree from Guelph-Humber. Prior to joining Forests Ontario, MJ was working in the communications department at CAMH. Though she doesn’t have a forestry background, MJ has always enjoyed being in nature, and having lived in the Greater Toronto Area, New Brunswick, England, Texas, and France, she has had the opportunity to experience a diversity of environments. She also enjoys working in the not-for-profit sector, and finds the important work Forests Ontario does rewarding and complimentary of her environmentally responsible lifestyle.
Like a true communications guru, MJ’s favourite part of her job is polishing others’ work to bring out the clearest message. She also enjoys the opportunities she has at Forests Ontario to get out in the field and see new places. Professionally, MJ is driven to hone her communications and PR skills and continue to advance her career. Personally, she is looking forward to building a life with her new husband Sergey.
