Faces of Forests Ontario: Ravi Singh
Posted: August 28, 2018
Name: Ravi Singh
Position: Outreach Coordinator
Favourite Tree: Beech – comes from the Norse word for book
Before becoming Forests Ontario Outreach Coordinator in 2014, Ravi briefly worked with Trees Ontario as an intern in the communications department in 2012. Now, as Forests Ontario’s man of many words, Ravi heads up the Our Forest magazine, assists with grant and sponsorship applications, writes press releases and reports, and manages social media accounts. Eager to have his hands in as many pots as possible, Ravi is quick to support the communications of any and all Forests Ontario programs as needed.
Ravi, a Toronto-native, studied political science and philosophy during his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto. He then went on to complete a Masters in Political Science at Queens University. Although Ravi has always followed environmental news, it wasn’t until his internship with Forests Ontario that he became interested in the details of forest management. Four years later he is still learning, but that is one of his favourite things about his job! He considers himself lucky to be surrounded by “living resources,” and particularly enjoys working on the magazine.
Given Ravi’s love of communicating through storytelling, Forests Ontario provides him with an excellent opportunity to achieve his goal of sharing good stories that might not otherwise be heard. In addition to writing, Ravi likes reading, cooking, and spending time with his two nieces. He is also a skilled runner, and has completed three marathons including the Chicago Marathon, one of six World Majors.
