Faces of Forests Ontario: Augusta Lipscombe
Posted: September 18, 2018
Name: Augusta Lipscombe
Position: Communications Assistant
Favourite Tree: White oak
Joining Forests Ontario in June of 2018, Augusta is one of the newest staff members. She is responsible for providing support to the rest of the communications team, as well as writing and editing a variety of materials such as presentations, blog posts, social media posts, and articles. Additionally, she is helping coordinate Forests Ontario’s many events, such as Community Tree Plants and the Toronto Christmas Market. Augusta is looking forward to familiarizing herself with the great work Forests Ontario does as well as working across all departments to help realize the organization’s mission.
Augusta grew up in a small hamlet outside of Smiths Falls, Ontario where she had the opportunity to develop a deep appreciation for the environment. Her passion for nature in combination with a subscription to National Geographic magazine prompted her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Marine and Freshwater Biology from the University of Guelph, followed by a Masters of Marine Management from Dalhousie University. Although she doesn’t have a forestry background, Augusta has been interested in holistic natural resource management for quite some time, and Forests Ontario’s collaborative approach to balancing environmental interests with economic and social sustainability aligns closely with her own values.
In future, Augusta hopes to continue fostering effective resource management and raising awareness among the general public of the importance of a healthy environment. When not in the office, Augusta can be found going for long walks (both in the city and in nature), searching for Toronto’s best burger, or catching the newest scary movie.
