Faces of Forests Ontario: Joris Effing
Posted: December 18, 2018
Name: Joris Effing
Favourite Tree: Japanese maple
Joining us all the way from The Netherlands is Joris Effing! Joris is completing a ten week, full-time placement with Forests Ontario as part of the requirements of his undergraduate degree. When not working on his research paper on the impact of government incentives on forest cover, Joris has been providing program support to Forests Ontario staff both in the office and the field. Working across all organizational departments, some of Joris’ responsibilities include assisting with administrative tasks, conducting research, and providing event support. He is enjoying his time here at Forests Ontario, especially the opportunity he has to work alongside staff members and integrate into office culture.
Joris grew up in the city of Enschede, located in the eastern Netherlands. He is in the third and final year of his International Business Administration degree at the University of Twente, where he also plans to complete a Master’s degree specializing in sustainable development. A placement with Forests Ontario has been an excellent fit for Joris – not just because of his degree requirement to obtain international experience in a position related to global challenges, but also due to his longstanding interest in the impacts of climate change on forests.
One day, Joris hopes to use his education, experience, and passion for sustainability to start up his own business. Until then, you can find him either fixing up classic sports cars or hanging out with his friends.
