Exclusive CAA corporate planting event brings environmental awareness to urban spaces

TORONTO, ON, September 4, 2013 –Trees Ontario and CAA South Central Ontario (CAASCO) are partnering to help “green” a local urban space.

Hosted in conjunction with CAA affinity partner the Toronto Zoo, the Saturday, September 28 exclusive employee-only event will bring together CAA SCO employees and their families in a half-day tree planting activity.

Participants will enjoy the chance to directly support their community in a local reforestation project and learn about the benefits of tree planting and green urban spaces.

“CAA SCO is proud to partner with Trees Ontario,” said Teresa De Felice, Director Community & Government Relations & Driver Training.  “Our three year commitment to the Toronto Zoo together is one of several initiatives we do to enhance our communities. This event is for CAA SCO employees and their families to take action on the steps they and our Members are doing for positive environmental action.”

The CAA SCO employee-exclusive engagement initiative will take place at the Toronto Zoo, located at 2000 Meadowvale Rd, in Toronto, ON, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The event is held rain or shine. Trees Ontario and its partners will supply the rest – the trees, forestry specialists, mulch and snacks. Appropriate outdoor clothing, sturdy shoes (steel toe if possible), a hat and sunscreen are recommended.

CAASCO has been a long-time supporter of Trees Ontario. Most recently, the two organizations joined forces to host three public community planting events in Kingston, Midhurst and Windsor last May. In total, more than 300 participants were involved and nearly 2,000 trees planted.

Planting trees is good for everyone, including animals! Trees help alleviate soil erosion, cleanse the air of pollutants and provide shade and windbreaks. Recent research also suggests that trees offer significant emotional and mental benefits. Trees, as they grow, soak up carbon dioxide (CO2). Therefore the planting of trees is an essential tool in helping mitigating climate change and reducing the amount of greenhouse gas in the air.

Trees Ontario recognizes that everyone plays a role in ensuring a healthy, natural environment for the future. The organization’s history of success is due to various contributions, including that of its partners and corporate sponsors.
