Union Gas Celebrates Centennial by Partnering with Trees Ontario to Regreen Local Communities

LONDON, ON, June 1, 2011 Union Gas is celebrating 100 years of providing safe, reliable and affordable service to customers and communities across Ontario. To mark its Centennial, the company is awarding a $10,000 grant to Trees Ontario, to plant 3,333 trees in the London and Sarnia areas. This grant is one of ten Centennial Signature Grants that the company will award to community organizations across Ontario in 2011.

Julie Dill, President of Union Gas, and Shawn Khoshaien, District Manager for London/Sarnia, presented a cheque to Emily Moore-Edwards, Senior Development Officer at Trees Ontario, at an open house held today at the company’s office on Commissioners Road in London.  Union Gas employees, retirees, government officials, industry partners and other members of the public joined in the celebration, which also included a ceremonial tree planting.

“A passionate commitment to stewardship, safety and win-win relationships are all central to our business culture and operations,” said Dill. “Our success as one of North America’s premier natural gas storage, transmission and distribution companies is shared with the communities we serve and we can’t think of a better way to mark this occasion than by giving back to a community program that so closely aligns with these business values.”

“We’re proud of our 90 year history with London,” added Khoshaien. “And we look forward to continuing this strong partnership as we strive to be the partner of choice in this and all 400 communities we serve.”

“Trees Ontario, working with its partners, is committed to the re-greening of Ontario through scientifically-based tree planting efforts and forestry practices,” explained Moore-Edwards. Trees enhance the health of our communities by purifying our air, filtering our water and offsetting carbon emissions. We are grateful for the support of Union Gas in helping us to achieve our goal of planting three million trees in 2011.”
