Emerald Ash Borer Advisory Services Program

Emerald Ash Borer

York Region has partnered with Forests Ontario to help landowners in the Region protect their forests through careful management and conservation, promoting tree planting and controlling invasive species, including the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).

The EAB is an invasive insect that kills ash trees in as little as two years. It has already killed millions of ash trees in Ontario, Quebec and the United States, and poses a major economic and environmental threat to urban and forested areas of North America. EAB was first found in Canada in 2002 and has since spread throughout southern Ontario, including York Region.

If you are a landowner in York Region and have ash trees in your woodlot, contact us to determine the best way to manage the impacts of EAB while ensuring your woodlot stays healthy and diverse. Visit our Frequently Asked Questions  and Resources sections to learn more about EAB and what you can do.

Call Before You Cut! Depending on your municipality, there are tree bylaws in effect.
